About KidsFest

Welcome to KidsFest 2020!

The family’s favourite Festival is back with 9 fantastic shows! 

Check out old favourites such as Stick Man and The Snail and the Whale and look out for The Gruffalo and Tabby McTat who will be with us for two weeks this year! 

There are also some extremely exciting new productions, including Mr Men and Little Miss, direct from a UK tour, and the return of the extremely popular tutti frutti theatre company with their beautiful version of Peter Pan. 

Other highlights include return visits to Hong Kong for the very popular Dinosaur Zoo and Dr Bunhead’s Blast-off – the noisy, action packed live science event! There’s also more fun to be had with The Gruffalo’s Child.

The Gruffalo

Join Mouse on a daring adventure through the deep, dark wood in Tall Stories’ magical, musical adaptation of the classic picture book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. 

Searching for hazelnuts, Mouse meets the cunning Fox, the eccentric old Owl and the party mad Snake. Will the story of the terrifying Gruffalo save Mouse from ending up as dinner for these hungry woodland creatures? After all, there’s no such thing as a Gruffalo – is there? 

Songs, laughs and fun for children aged 3 and up and their grown-ups, in the much-loved show that’s toured Britain and the world!

Tabby McTat

No cat can sing like Tabby McTat, Fred the guitar-playing busker’s cat. He loves to sing as people throw coins in Fred’s hat! But one terrible day, Fred chases a thief – and the two are separated. Will they ever sing songs together again? Fresh from the greatest picture book team in the world comes this delightful rhyming story of music, friendship, loyalty – and cats!

Mr Men & Little Miss

Join your favourite Mr. Men and Little Miss characters as they leap off the page and onto the stage in this beautifully crafted and hilarious live stage show! For almost 50 years, Mr. Men and Little Misses have brought joy to millions of children all over the world through self-expression, colour, simplicity and humour. Featuring Mr. Bump, Little Miss Splendid, Mr. Tickle, Little Miss Inventor and many more, Happyland bursts to life in a series of colourful and timeless stories told through puppetry and music.

The Snail and the Whale

Join an adventurous young girl and her seafaring father as they reimagine the story of a tiny snail’s incredible trip around the world, inspired by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s much-loved picture book.

Longing to see the world, a tiny sea snail hitches a lift on the tail of a great big, grey-blue humpback whale. Together they go on an amazing journey, brought vividly to life through live music, storytelling and lots of laughs – but when the whale gets beached, how will the snail save him?

A heart-warming adventure for everyone aged four and up, from Tall Stories, the Olivier Award-nominated company that brought you The Gruffalo and Room on the Broom live on stage.

The Gruffalo’s Child

No gruffalo should ever set foot in the deep dark wood…

Follow the Gruffalo’s Child on her adventurous mission in Tall Stories’ enchanting adaptation of the much-loved picture book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler.

One wild and windy night the Gruffalo’s Child ignores her father’s warnings about the Big Bad Mouse and tiptoes out into the deep dark wood. She follows snowy tracks and encounters mysterious creatures – but the Big Bad Mouse doesn’t really exist… does he? 

Let your imagination run wild with songs, laughs and scary fun for everyone aged 3 to 103.

Dinosaur Zoo

Meet awesome prehistoric creatures, from cute baby dinos to some of the largest carnivores and herbivores that have ever walked the planet! Erth’s dinosaurs are unmistakably ‘alive’ and mostly friendly in this fun, educational and unique performance that will delight all audiences from ages 5 years and up. 

Get up-close and personal with an amazing array of creatures from bygone eras, connecting young audiences to the real science of palaeontology. 

Meet a menagerie of insects, mammals and dinosaurs that once roamed free around the world and are now in daily residence at Erth’s Dinosaur Zoo™

Learn how to feed and interact with Erth’s dinosaurs in a once in a lifetime interactive experience. Children can watch wide-eyed from a safe distance or dare to get right up close to these prehistoric creatures.

Dr Bunhead’s Blast Off!

But tonight has magic in the air ……

tutti frutti and York Theatre Royal re-imagine the enchanting story of Peter Pan as told by Wendy, with a little bit of help from leading British playwright Mike Kenny.

Wendy Darling is the owner of stories, mother to the lost boys, a believer in fairies, and a young girl with her feet firmly on the ground.

We invite you to fly into a fantastical world of adventure, where time stands still and the impossible seems possible and if you close your eyes and believe, then you really can make anything happen. This sparkling production with exquisite music, enthralling movement and a sprinkle of tutti frutti magic is for children 4+ and their families to enjoy.

Stick Man
