New Seaworld Plaza, New Shekou Hub

Now Shenzhen   |   August 23, 2021

In 2003, Seaworld Plaza was opened known as Shenzhen’s first International entertainment hub. Ten years later, a brand-new Seaworld Plaza, as the core commercial area of Seaworld Urban Complex, is going to embrace its reopening after complete renovation. The new Seaworld Plaza featuring international, fashionable, exotic and leisurely dynamics is expected to regain its glory.

The new Seaworld Plaza covers a total commercial area of 67,000 square meters including three parts – Minghua ship, Central Plaza and ABC zones.

Minghua ship still keeps its landmark status at this new Seaworld Plaza, or even in Shekou. The ship was originally a luxury liner built by French in 1962 and known as ANCEEVILLA. In 1973, China bought this ship and renamed it as “Minghua” ship. In 1983, this ship arrived at Shekou and was rebuilt into a hotel and served as a sea-based tourist centre. In 1984, Deng Xiaoping came to visit it and wrote an inscription “Seaworld”. This is how the name came about. After almost 30 years’ service, this ship has not finished its task yet. In 2010, with an investment of 60 billion Yuan, the main part of New Shekou project – Seaworld Urban Complex started its renovation. This December 20th, part of the renovation project will be formally unveiled at the Minghua ship by its major developer – China Merchants Property Development Co. Ltd. At the same day, the water show beside the ship will be staged and the newly built Hilton Shenzhen Shekou Nanhai will be open as well. So far, eight stores on the ship have been put to use. They are Minghua Cruise Inn, Löwenburg Brauerei and Restaurant, 4th Deck Bar, X-TA-SEA Sports Bar & Restaurant, Fonsun Conceptual Sichuan Cuisine, San Francisco Bay Seafood Bar, Executive Lounge and Captain Bar.

Central Plaza occupies a total area of about 15,000 square meters. 33 well-known stores now are in business like Terraces, McCawley’s Irish Bar & Restaurant Shekou, Club Viva Shekou, McDonald’s and Starbucks.

Zone A is just in front of the Minghua Ship covering about 12,000 square meters. It is composed of 3 independent commercial buildings – L’amour, Salon Club and Exotic Food – and underground plaza connecting to the metro. The most spectacular building should be the Salon Club designed by Ryan Church who assisted the leading architectural firm in the U.S. – Callison Architectural Firm – to build landmarks for Seaworld. In the Exotic Food, you will find Pacific Coffee, Andes Cafe and The Kitchen, etc..

Zone B, covering about 12,000 square meters of commercial area, is composed of one main building and 5 independent buildings built by waterside. Other than focusing on International boutique like Zone A, Zone B has exotic and unique food with original flavors. Moreover, the outdoor space is really nice in this zone.

Zone C is themed on fashion and leisure and composed of double-fish commercial building and watery plaza. The total commercial area is reaching about 12,000 square meters. Similar with Zone A, you also can find some special restaurants here in order to meet the needs of the public. Paulaner Bräuhaus Shenzhen Shekou is one of them, which is the first authentic brauhaus in Shenzhen.

Undoubtedly, this December 20, the grand opening of the old, yet new Seaworld Plaza and the newly built Hilton Shenzhen Shekou Nanhai will attract many people’s eyeballs. With its opening and development, more businesses surely will join and enrich the plaza. Personalized services and facilities should be perfected over time as well. Let’s wait and see!
