Firstly, there is a green channel between the north entrance of the hospital and the Emergency Department entrance, which is open 24 hours a day with security staff in attendance at all times for your safety.
Inside Main Doors
Emergency Department provides a feeling of space and a comfortable and peaceful environment to minimize the sense of anxiety that often accompany being ill or injured. From booking in at reception to seeing the nurse and doctor, we ensure that the care process is efficient and convenient so that you can be on your way as quickly as possible.
We adhere to the international 4-hour standard for management, which means that we aim to complete your care within 4 hours, no matter what your condition is, but actually the vast majority of our patients are discharged well before then.
Cubicles
Beside reception, there is a dedicated triage room where you will have an initial assessment by a nurse and prioritized according to need, so that if you come with a very serious condition, we will make sure that you are seen quickly.
Then there are 8 separate cubicles arranged around a central nurses’ station. Each cubicle is separated by a glass door and curtains to provide the right balance between patients’ privacy and security but acknowledging the importance of nurses being able to observe patients for any deterioration.
Among the 8 cubicles, 2 are specifically designed to provide a welcoming environment for children and one cubicle for patients with mental health needs. The cubicles are of such a size that we are able to complete the whole process of care in that one cubicle including assessing patients, doing necessary investigations, taking blood samples, perhaps managing wounds or fractures, giving injections. Patients do not have the hassle of moving from cubicle to cubicle or department to department. If patients need an X-ray or a scan, the Radiology Department is available 24/7 right next to the Emergency Department.
Resus Room
If patients come to us with a very serious condition, we have a fully equipped resuscitation room just inside the main doors. We can manage cardiorespiratory arrest and all critical illnesses and injuries. We have a fully functional defibrillator that can provide external cardiac pacing. There are monitoring facilities to ensure we keep a close eye on customer vital signs. We have immediate access to a ventilator should patients need help with breathing. And we can get portable ultrasound, portable X-ray, ECGs and blood gas analysis without the team looking after you needing to move from your bedside.
All of our Emergency Physicians are certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and its equivalent and regular drills are held to ensure that our skills are kept up to date.
ER doctors are all able to manage the full range of urgent and emergency presentations including acute medical problems like stroke, chest pain, and respiratory illness, and are familiar with managing surgical problems, orthopaedics, obstetric and gynaecological conditions, pediatrics, ophthalmology and ENT.
Instead of having to choose a specialist who may not be specialized in what you need, our wide-ranging knowledge of multiple systems allows us to properly direct your assessment and treatment at the first attendance. Our model of service is based on international standards and practice similar to that in the United States, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong and Australia. Many of our nursing staff have experience of working overseas and have excellent language skills. No matter what your urgent or emergency presentation, we are ready to care for you here at any time of the day or night.
