The Guangzhou-Shenzhen section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong high speed railway will be finished by the end of this year, after which it will take just 20 minutes to travel from Shenzhen to Guangzhou.

The cross border section of Shenzhen-Hong Kong will be linked to Hong Kong in 2014. It will take only 16 minutes from Shenzhen to Hong Kong and about 36 minutes from Guangzhou to Hong Kong.

The Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong high speed railway has a length of 146 kilometers, starting from Guangzhou South Station (the new Guangzhou Station) in Shibi, Panyu District and passing to the east through Panyu, Dongguan Shenzhen North Station (the new Shenzhen Station which will be built in Minzhi Street of Shenzhen Bao’an District).

This section will be linked to Hong Kong section after passing through Futian District in Shenzhen, Huanggang Port and West Jiulong Station. A section of the railway will also pass Mipu natural protected area, Shigang and Jiulong urban district. The whole 26km stretch of the Hong Kong section consists entirely of tunnels and underground stations.
