SHENZHEN, China (August 2022) — Grand Hyatt Shenzhen has appointed Richard Li as General Manager. In addition to his property role, Richard will serve as Area Vice President, overseeing Hyatt hotels in Guangdong and Hainan provinces. With more than 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry across Europe and Asia, Richard brings his knowledge and expertise to spearhead the theatrical Grand Hyatt property.
Richard attained his master’s degree in International Business from the Vlekho Business School in Brussels, and joined the international sales office of a renowned hotel brand in Belgium and Luxembourg before returning to China. In the following years, Richard gained a wealth of frontline experience working with international hotel chains in cities including Bo’ao, Hefei, Shanghai and Nanjing, and was a Development Manager in the Greater China regional office. His strength and competency in leadership positions shaped him into a strategic leader, and he became General Manager for the first time in Nanjing in 2006. Over the subsequent 12 years, he has led multiple legacy Starwood hotels and Marriott hotels and held the position of Area General Manager in Hainan. In 2018, Richard joined the Hyatt family as General Manager of Grand Hyatt Xi’an. In 2021, Richard advanced to Area Vice President of Hyatt Greater Beijing and General Manager of Park Hyatt Beijing.
Fueled by a passion for adventure, Richard enjoys traveling with his family and challenging himself by competing in marathons. He competed in a full marathon in 2018, and most recently, he completed a 2,150 km (1,335 mile), 20-day cycling tour from Grand Hyatt Chengdu to Potala Palace in Lhasa. Richard is glad to be back home after 12 years. With his devotion to care, Richard strives to make every customer feel at home, and he embodies Hyatt’s purpose, which is to “care for people so they can be their best”.
