Just as no two places are alike, no two Hotel Indigo® properties are alike. Each Hotel Indigo® draws inspiration from the essence of the local neighborhood culture and its historic narrative. Through innovation and modern design, Hotel Indigo® inspires guests to explore, discover and create their own unforgettable experiences.
When Hotel Indigo® meets Overseas Chinese Town (OCT) and when classic beauty and imaginative exuberance mix, what sort of colorful drama will be staged? On December 26, 2022, after more than half a year of renovation and upgrades, Hotel Indigo® Shenzhen Overseas Chinese Town lives up to its expectations, ushering in a new era that will inspire and open the door for guests to explore the city and local community.
In an opening speech, the hotel owner Secretary of the Party Committee & General Manager of OCT Hotel Group Mr. Hao Gang expressed that Overseas Chinese Town has enjoyed a friendly, long-term cooperative relationship with InterContinental Hotels Group. Twenty-one years ago, the two parties formed a relationship with the Venetian Hotel Shenzhen and jointly founded the Venetian-themed Crowne Plaza Hotel. And twenty-one years later, we continue with the first Indigo branded hotel in Shenzhen, opening the curtain and presenting more exciting stories on the stage, immersing ourselves in the neighborhood and exploring with guests from all over the world.
Vice President Operations, IHG South China & Hongkong, Macau & Taiwan Mr. Michael Hoe-Knudsen from InterContinental Hotels Group attended the opening ceremony where he said, “IHG and OCT have once again joined forces to bring one of our most unique luxury and lifestyle brands Hotel Indigo® to Shenzhen. It not only carries extraordinary significance, but also further deepens the partnership. I believe that with the joint efforts of both parties, the newly upgraded Hotel Indigo® Shenzhen Overseas Chinese Town will become a new landmark in Shenzhen and even the Greater Bay Area, creating a warm and vibrant stay experience for guests.”
Maggie Tong, General Manager of Hotel Indigo® Shenzhen Overseas Chinese Town, delivered a warm invitation.
“Hotel Indigo® Shenzhen Overseas Chinese Town returns to the market with a concept of neighborhood culture — ‘Dreaming in Overseas Chinese Town.’ From local culture to diverse experiences to design inspiration, the hotel aims to tell neighborhood stories that open doors for guests to explore. We welcome guests and friends to become ambassadors of the hotel, step up on the stage together, and kick off the beautiful journey.”
Dreaming in Overseas Chinese Town
The story of the transformation of Shenzhen OCT is a grand plan, full of vitality and creativity, giving people the power to pursue their dreams. In the middle of Overseas Chinese Town and on the banks of Mangrove Bay, the Hotel Indigo® Shenzhen Overseas Chinese Town is like an adjacent theater, with coastal nature and humanities as the background, and uses art to warm the spiritual life of the city.
With “Opera Dream Overseas Chinese City” as the main design line, the hotel cleverly integrates neighboring cultural elements such as Overseas Chinese Town Creative Park, Happy Valley and Window of the World into every detail such as hotel facilities and works of art, and builds a space where classical and modern, Eastern and Western blend between light, shadow and color. At the same time, with cordial, warm and personalized service, it provides a pure and authentic Shenzhen experience for seekers and unique sojourners.
Enter into Dream
Dream theater, fragrance of neighborhood. Upon arrival at the hotel, a neighborhood ambassador dressed in a distinguishing sailor’s costume greets guests and leads them into the lobby. A warm “Welcome Home” or “Welcome Back” from the sailor makes people feel like they are at home.
The lobby is imbued with a “Theater of Dreams” concept, where light and elegant curtains pour down from the top of the starry sky, gorgeous bouquets of flowers are in full bloom and the elegant “phoenix flower” fragrance of the south all combine to create a fresh, comfy and natural experience of one’s hometown. At this moment, people are already in the realm of neighborhood stories.
Upon check-in, you’ll enjoy a welcome drink of hand-made lemon tea or stockings milk tea to help you unwind from the tiredness of the travels, allowing you a short break before the full start of your explorational journey.
An artistic dream journey is also a place where the dream is made. A guest room card with the theme of “Dreaming in Overseas Chinese Town” stage curtain, lion dance, or hand-drawn neighborhood elements serves as a key to exploring the neighborhood.
The hotel’s 354 guest rooms and suites take “art collection” as a design theme, reflecting upon the local neighborhood art style, including paintings, graffiti and sculpture as expression of personality, combining rich colors, wallpaper with architectural silhouettes and other Venetian impressions, all creating deeply charming artistic vision.
Most rooms include open balconies overlooking the urban landscape that may include expansive Shenzhen Bay, a unique view of the Window of the World, or a romantic fireworks display. The room’s minibar is charmingly furnished with neighborhood drinks, such as the foreign herbal tea “Sha Shi” soda that holds many old memories, along with Cantonese specialty snacks like Shunde fish skin and Yuanlang butterfly crisps, together allowing guests to immerse themselves in a range of sensations from the neighborhood from sight to taste.
A fresh fragrance of scented candles fills the entire room, and the soft light is quite ritualistic. Accompanied by a drink to help them rest, guests are assured to sleep soundly.
Dreaming in Garden
A taste of the neighborhood and garden dreams. The hotel restaurants and bar continue the concept of “Dreaming in Overseas Chinese Town” treating guests to an artistic dining experience and serving as a bridge to neighborhood life and social interaction. You’ll find the overall setting, indoors and out, is adorned with plants and flowers, architectural elements, paintings and sculptural decorative installations that vividly convey the artists’ vision. What’s more, famous Cantonese opera singers melodiously and gracefully provide people with a sense of traveling through time.
CAMPIELLO 26 Neighborhood Café is like an art gallery. What’s on offer is both buffet and à la carte style fare with a tasty selection of authentic Cantonese dishes, European cuisine and assorted foods and drinks from all over the world.
CAMPIELLO 26 Neighborhood Bar restores the charming ecology of mangrove wetland to create a captivating “dreamlike garden.” Guests will find themselves surrounded by art and fashion while enjoying classic cocktails or mixed drinks poured by our friendly bartenders. What’s more, live music adds to the fun.
NINFA GALLERY Lobby Lounge offers a dreamy stage for a brief respite, where you can enjoy local afternoon tea and discover the neighborhood.
MARCO’S Chinese Restaurant serves Cantonese cuisine and seafood specialties. It offers 9 private rooms, 7 of which are multifunctional and able to be combined into a single large space or several small ones. Marco’s is ideal for social get-togethers or business dinners.
The hotel gym and heated indoor and outdoor swimming pools allow guests to relax and unwind. The outdoor open-air sailing pool, gondola boats and beautiful scenery serve to recreate the classic European water town of the Renaissance era. Here, business events, cocktail parties or Chinese and Western-style wedding banquets will be made special.
Roaming the “oasis of literature and art” and seeking the dream of OCT. OCT enjoys the reputation of an “oasis of literature and art” and boasts a vibrant cultural and social atmosphere. Wander around the OCT LOFT Creative and Cultural Park, and you will be captivated by the distinctive graffiti wall paintings and rustic sculptures, as well as the bustling creative market. Find a nice café, visit a second-hand bookstore, have a drink in a bistro, watch a folk performance, and what you see and hear is a neighborhood narrative that is sure to inspire. And if you are in search of more, you can visit Hua Art Museum, He Xiangning Art Museum, Huaxia Art Center and the “Sound of the Bay Area” Bay Opera of Shenzhen to experience the charm of art.
The hotel lies adjacent to Window of the World, Happy Valley and Splendid China. It is a 3-minute walk from Exit A of Metro Line 1 to the hotel lobby. With a superior location, guests will find it easy to explore the beauty and charm of the neighborhood.
