Duke’s Stunning New Singer

The Langham, Shenzhen, is well known for being one of the most prestigious hotels in Shenzhen.  It has outstanding dining areas and legendary hospitality, as well as high class facilities throughout. The new jazz singer at Duke’s is nothing less than exceptional herself, and she adds something to the atmosphere that you can’t quite put your finger on. Persona Bell is a multi-talented musician, and she will thrill you with her melodic voice and piano playing whether you are dining or savouring the extensive wine cellar.

Born and raised in Minneapolis, USA, Persona studied English and Music at St Olaf College, Minnesota. It was there that she joined the St Olaf choir, the premier a cappella choir in America. For three years she travelled with the choir all over the USA, performing at such revered venues as the White House, Carnegie Hall and Disney Hall. Persona’s favourite venue to perform at was Disney Hall in Los Angeles, as the acoustics are phenomenal and the building spectacular. She also loved travelling around Norway and seeing the fjords as part of her visit there to sing for the Queen.

Travelling with St Olaf’s choir gave Persona a taste for seeing the world and when she was given the opportunity to move to Yangzhou, China, after college to teach English for a year, she jumped at the chance. This gave Persona her first taste of Chinese culture and she knew at the time that one day she would return. That day came in August this year when she arrived in Shenzhen to entertain guests in Duke’s. Persona has felt nothing but welcomed since arriving in Shenzhen, particularly by the staff of the Langham. She is enjoying exploring the city during the day, whilst in the evening she chats to guests and meets new people between her sets.

At the beginning of November Persona was asked to perform at the opening ceremony of the Shenzhen Futian International Music Week, which she considered a great honour. She is hoping to take part in more music events around the city in the future and she is always keen to meet and collaborate with local musicians, song writers and producers.

Persona has an ear for music which is unmatched by many. She adapts well-known and modern classics to suit her voice, as well as writing and producing her own songs. When you first arrive in Duke’s you can expect to be greeted by jazz tunes such as All of Me, Fly Me to the Moon, Ain’t Misbehaving and Autumn Leaves. Later on in the evening Persona will serenade you with more modern songs by artists such as Adele, Whitney Houston, Anita Baker, Sam Smith and Alicia Keys, to name a few. Guests can also request songs and anything Persona knows, she’ll play. If she doesn’t know it she will usually take it away to learn for a future performance, so it’s always worth going back for more.

Persona Bell performs in Duke’s, The Langham, Shenzhen, from Monday to Thursday 7.30pm-11.15pm and Friday to Saturday 8pm-11.45pm.
