Great news for those that either missed the spectacular shows the first time around or for those who can’t get enough of them… the Futian District Light Show returns this Friday.

Also known as the “Shenzhen Civic Square Light Show,” this massive LED performance is located in Futian’s Central Business District.

Originally launched last year, the show was suspended from December 28th, 2018, as the area was used to stage this year’s CCTV Spring Festival Gala. Now that the on-site cleaning and restoration of the Civic Center Square has been completed, the show can go on.

Schedule

Below are the latest show times, scheduled to start on Friday, March 29, 2019.

  • 3 shows per night
  • Fridays, Saturdays and National Holidays
  • Performance time: 19:30, 20:30, 21:30

At of the time of publishing this article, weekday shows have not been announced. Please see the “Comments” section at this end of this article. If anything changes, we’ll add a comment there.

Light Show Viewing Areas

There are many places you can watch the show from.

If you prefer to do so with a drink in your hand or over a meal, you can also catch a decent view from Xpats Bar & Grill in the Central Walk Shopping Mall off Exit B of the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center Metro Station.

The show officially began last year on September 28, 2018; not including the testing period which caused a bit of a stir.

The theme was the 40th anniversary of the reform and opening up of China.

Highlighting the theme, the connotation and far-reaching significance of reform and opening up, the show was divided into four chapters:

Chapter 1: The City of Mountains and Seas – “Shenzhen Speed” from the “A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains”

Chapter 2: The Window of Reform – Looking back on the brilliant achievements of Shenzhen in the past 38 years

Chapter 3: The Capital of Innovation – Gathering financial centers around the world through light and shadow

Chapter 4: The Realm of Harmony – “Come to Shenzhen and You’re Shenzhen People”

Drone Show

According to bloggers who have been following the light show, the opening shows often included a drone show; however, there’s been no confirmation as of the time of writing this article that they will be included moving forward.

One of the most memorable parts of the drone show was the 360° Eagle.

800 drones were used to depict the eagle as well as many other symbols, images and patterns.
