Chinese New Year, Lunar New Year, Spring Festival, Chun Jie — it all means the same thing, and it’s time for the most important holiday in China to usher in the Year of the Ox!

As we heed the government’s call to stay safe, let’s continue enjoying the new year’s traditions but with health and safety in mind.

Here are our suggestions to prepare your home the traditional way and what to do if someone visits you!

How to decorate your home the traditional way

Some of the more popular decorations to put up for the new year are red lanterns to drive away bad luck, couplets with words of wisdom and good luck, paper cuttings for luck and happiness, and an upside-down Chinese character, fu 福 to symbolise luck falling in!

Instead of worrying if you have the correct traditional Chinese decorations, let Sam’s help you. The box your decorations come in is so lovely it doubles as a conversation piece in your home!

What do I do when visitors leave my home? What about virtual visitors? What should I do?

Depending on which part of China you come from, there are different ways for a host to show their appreciation for visitors. But the one common tradition is to give your visitor a gift as they leave.

And treat the virtual visitor as if they had graced your home and send them a gift.

Here are a few of Sam’s favourite items to give your visitor, even if they’re virtual visitors. Order online, and get your quality and exclusive-to-Sam’s items delivered to your doorstep, often within an hour!
