After 15 exciting and exhilarating days riding through 68 cities across mainland China and Hong Kong, Ride for Hope 3 has finally reached its final destination. A closing ceremony was held at Pudong Shangri-La Hotel, East Shanghai to celebrate the riders’ safe and successful journeys and to present the cheque to the beneficiary – China’s Ai You Foundation. Through the generous support of all partners and participants, sponsors and media, 5,689,029.49 CNY was raised. This money will go to help at least 150 orphaned and financially disadvantaged children with developmental dislocation diseases.
Ride for Hope 3 is a community outreach project organised by Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts to help raise more awareness and funds for children with hip disabilities under the Ai You Foundation’s Morning Star Project. The logistics and preparation for the event took several months of work and involved over 1,000 staff from 30 Shangri-La hotels to colleagues from its regional and corporate offices in the planning. Collectively 32 core riders, over 5,000 local riders participated in the ride and clocked 5,000 kilometres across 68 cities along four different routes.
“Shangri-La has always been committed to finding ways to help improve the lives of people in our community,” said Oliver Bonke, Shangri-La’s President and Chief Operating Officer who took part in the last two-day journey from Hangzhou to Shanghai.

This project has succeeded in bringing many people together in a very memorable and meaningful way. What we have collectively achieved today will made a huge difference in the lives of these children.”
“We are very pleased with our successful partnership with Shangri-La. The donations from Ride for Hope 3 will enable our orphaned children and children with degenerative diseases to receive effective treatments to lead normal lives,” said Zhenzhen Luo, assistant secretary general of the Ai You Foundation. “The ‘mobile’ charity drive is a unique way to raise more awareness and engage consumers to support the Ai You Morning Star Project. We appreciate the innovative way of using bike riding to reach out to the public to help improve the lives of these children.
