Treasures & Scent at The Langham, Shenzhen, is the perfect destination for a delectable dessert. As you climb the sweeping staircase to the second floor, you are greeted by the white marble and gold décor of a high-class establishment. Before you is a colourful display of celebration cakes, pastries, tarts, chocolates and breads. The only decision to make now is which delicious dish to taste.

Francesco Mannino, the Executive Pastry Chef at The Langham, Shenzhen has chosen Treasures & Scent as his culinary project. Originally from Rome, Italy, Francesco Mannino trained with world-class pastry chef Pierre Hermé in Paris before working in five-star hotels in London and Beijing. Knowing The Langham from his time in London, Francesco jumped at the chance to work with The Langham, Shenzhen. In the last three years he has developed various buffet concepts, launched the classic afternoon tea as well as a reinvented afternoon tea with a modern twist.

Treasures & Scent has been developed into a modern pastry shop with a new sleek appearance by Hong Kong designers. However, the innovation hasn’t stopped there. Francesco has used his extensive experience to design a range of cakes and pastries with new and exciting combinations of flavours. Strawberry and prosecco, mango and lime, and coffee and caramelised pecans are a few of the fascinating flavours on offer.

For that special someone in your life, the celebration cakes are perfect for any occasion. Authentic European classics with a contemporary touch, they can be customised with your loved ones’ name, favourite colour and more with only 24 hours’ notice. You can choose from Passion Fruit & Orange Cheesecake, Exotic Fruit & Manjari, Strawberry & Coconut Charlotte, Caffe Latte, Apple Tatin or Vanilla Flan. Birthday kids can be treated to a unique rainbow cake where even the cake itself is a variety of colours. Additionally, there are celebration cakes to suit the season. For Christmas, there is a Bûche de Noël Chocolate cake with either yuzu or blackcurrant, Treasures & Scent’s own take on the classic yule log.

For something a little more personal, try one of the ‘take me away’ jars – an innovative idea from Francesco. Think ‘cake on the go’, or a mini treat that you can easily take home and eat at your convenience. With two new flavours of tiramisu, in addition to the classic coffee, as well as two delicious panna cotta to choose from, the only difficult part will be deciding which one to try first.

Four unique éclairs add to the choice, with Treasure & Scent’s signature being the Glamour – a traditional éclair with cherry and tonka filling, bathed in luxurious chocolate and topped with chocolate snaps. A selection of tarts is perfect either for sharing or for keeping all to yourself. Blueberry and earl grey cream, mango and passion fruit, coffee and chocolate ganache with fresh raspberry syrup – these are a few of the tarts available for you to savour.

A smaller, but no less tasty treat, comes in the form of macaroons and chocolate pralines, again in a variety of flavours. Each sweet is handmade with the finest ingredients from Europe. A new indulgence is the Chocolate Crunch – high-quality chocolate from Verona layered with carefully chosen flavours to create exclusive confections. White chocolate is layered with raspberry and dark chocolate pearls, milk chocolate is layered with hazelnuts and passion fruit, 70% dark chocolate is layered with coffee and pecans, and these aren’t all the options.

Treasures & Scent is not just the place to go to spoil yourself. It also has a range of breads and pastries perfect for every day. Sweet and buttery croissants, baguettes and sourdough bread made with French flour, cookies, pretzels and carrot cake are a few of the products on offer. Currently, Christmas delicacies, such as gingerbread men, stolen, Christmas cake and chocolate houses are also available to make your celebrations that little bit more special. Christmas hampers can also be ordered – these contain fine quality products from Europe as well as sweet treats made at The Langham.

Quality is tradition at The Langham. One of the ways that Treasures & Scent is unique is that you can find high quality, freshly made food at amazing prices. With celebration cakes from RMB168++ and the unique ‘take me away’ cakes in a jar only RMB38, there are delicious desserts to suit every budget. The staff are all highly trained and more than happy to answer any questions about the desserts or explain the best way to eat each one – usually by taking a bite containing all the flavours to get a truly mouth-watering experience.
