A NEW round of online shopping e-vouchers are being issued on the e-commerce platform JD.com app, starting from Saturday.

The e-vouchers for electronic products, home appliances, apparel and accessories, and gold and jewelry are being distributed to Shenzhen residents on a first-come, first-served basis at 10 a.m. every day until June 20.

The move is part of 30 relief measures the government announced in March to support COVID-affected businesses and unleash local consumption vitality.

Starting May 1, the commerce bureau and the industry and information technology bureau of Shenzhen are jointly giving out shopping vouchers worth 400 million yuan (US$59.7 million) in four phases via the JD.com app, which will run through July 10.

The latest batch of discount coupons is the third round of JD.com app’s e-vouchers. They include “Save ¥600 on every ¥5,000 spent,” “Save ¥400 on every ¥3,000 spent” and “Save ¥200 on every ¥1,000 spent.”

The coupons can be spent for multiple purchases of designated products that have signed up for the program, including well-known brands such as Lenovo, Huawei, HONOR, DJI, Skyworth and KONKA.

As JD.com’s 618 Shopping Festival has kicked off this year with presales launched last Monday, consumers can enjoy discounts offered by both promotion campaigns, while buying designated goods.

The joint efforts between the city government and JD.com have fueled a consumer boom in the city. The platform’s statistics showed that over 1.5 million vouchers, with a total value of 50 million yuan, that were distributed from May 1 to 3 had generated 300 million yuan in consumption.

The city’s consumer market raked in over 23 billion yuan in consumer spending during the first four days of May Day holiday, as per the commerce bureau.

To boost local consumer confidence and help retail businesses in difficult times, Shenzhen has introduced a series of incentives since April.

The measures cover a total of 500 million yuan worth of e-vouchers and e-CNY coupons on e-commerce platforms, and 100 million yuan in subsidies for consumer electronics and home appliances purchases at local brick-and-mortar stores.

On Thursday, a new package of incentives was introduced to further stimulate consumer spending.

A key part of the measures was subsidies for car purchasing, which have ignited residents’ great enthusiasm for cars as the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area International Auto Show opened at Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center in Futian District on Saturday. The show, the first national grand exhibition in 2022, will last until June 5.
