OCAT Shenzhen will screen short films over three weekends starting this Saturday. Some films are in English and some have English subtitles. The schedule can be found on OCAT Shenzhen’s official WeChat account.

The event is an exploration of a world abounding with diversity and includes three themed screenings over three weekends, which will take the audience on a journey through histories and civilizations, positions and territories, and identities and races.

This weekend, the “Courier From the East” segment, including two short films by Yang Yuanyuan on Saturday and four by Yu Cheng-ta, Musquiqui Chihying, Liu Yujia and Fang Di on Sunday, focuses on the survival of overseas Chinese and includes research on the history of other countries.

Then next weekend, in “Lingering Along Borders,” the focus returns to China’s border and coastal areas through three films by Shen Xin and Liu on Aug. 1 and four by Fang and Payne Zhu on Aug. 2.

The final week is about the abstract image of China in “China, as THE Concept,” explored through eight films by Cao Fei, Li Hanwei and Lawrence Lek on Aug. 8 and four by Hsu Chia-wei and Lee Kai-chung on Aug. 9.

Along with the screenings every weekend, the artists will come to talk about their creative processes and share their thoughts and stories with the audience. Curators, writers and scholars will also be invited to give lectures or discussions about their research and ideas on identity issues related to the films.

Tickets are 80 yuan and includes all the films. Audience members can also buy tickets at door, which are 45 yuan per night.
