Return of the Strawberry Music Festival in DaMeiSha

AFTER a five-year hiatus from Shenzhen’s music scene, the renowned Strawberry Music Festival returned for another spectacular edition. The festival, which took place over the weekend at Dameisha Coastal Park in Yantian District, featured a stellar lineup of popular acts from China and abroad, transforming the relaxing getaway destination into a euphoric sonic wonderland.

Headlining the music festival were established singer-songwriters and bands including Leah Dou, Chen Li, Faith Yang, Amber Kuo, Ma Di, Shisan Yao, Dada and PeaceHotel, as well as other rising young talents.

Meanwhile, for the first time overseas bands were featured in this year’s Strawberry Music Festival. The fin., an indie rock band from Kobe, Japan, came to China with their latest album “Acoustic Versions,” while Japanese trio She Her Her Hers made their Strawberry Music Festival debut in Shenzhen.

With two stages dedicated to rock, pop, folk, blues and everything in between, there was something right up to every music lover’s alley.

A rock fan surnamed Sheng drove from Dongguan to listen to Rebuilding the Right of Statues (Re-TROS), a Chinese gothic rock band. Last night, Re-TROS set the stage ablaze with their energetic performance, uniting thousands of music lovers in a collective celebration of sound.

Sheng, who has been to Strawberry Music Festival held in Changsha, Hunan Province, said he enjoyed the relaxing summer vibes at Dameisha beach, which is a good way to get recharged for the coming week.

In addition to the musical extravaganza, the festival offered an array of delectable culinary delights, serving up a tantalizing selection of gourmet treats, ranging from traditional delicacies to ice cream and beers. Festivalgoers were also encouraged to engage in various interactive activities, from cultural and creative fairs to art installations.

Strawberry Music Festival is an outdoor music event initiated in 2009 and organized by China’s largest independent record label Modern Sky. The festival has been held annually since 2009 in several cities in China.

According to Chen Qianya, business development director of Modern Sky, as of 2022, Strawberry Music Festival had presented 121 shows in 35 cities.

Song Chunlin, a tourism official in Yantian District, revealed that in the coming months Yantian will launch 42 cultural, sports and tourism events such as the Meisha Carnival Beer Festival, the Shenzhen leg of the Hydrofoil World Cup and the Spartan Race.
