Book discounts

SHENZHEN book lovers can continue purchasing books at favorable prices at the city’s eight bookstores until May 29, according to the reading festival’s organizers.

Residents can get discounts of up to 70% and use book coupons at Shenzhen Book City’s six major bookstores, Eon Books and EASYREAD book bars.

In celebration of World Book and Copyright Day on April 23, Shenzhen launched a citywide reading festival to promote reading culture. The festival was scheduled to run until May 8 and is now extended to May 29.

Stem cell transplant

THE hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) transplantation center of Shenzhen University General Hospital has completed its first autologous stem cell transplantation for an adult.

The patient, a 67-year-old man, was discharged from the hospital Friday after the transplantation and a month of close medical care.

Autologous stem cell transplantation uses healthy blood stem cells from the patient’s own body to replace their diseased or damaged bone marrow, and is typically used in patients with multiple myeloma.

Forbes Global 2000

BYD, a Shenzhen-headquartered electric auto manufacturer, is on the list of 2022 Global 2000 that Forbes released Thursday.

The company was ranked 579th with US$32.8 billion in revenue, US$469.6 million in profit and US$46.6 billion in assets. The figures were based on the latest 12-month financial data available as of April 22, 2022.

The ranking selects 2,000 of the world’s largest and most competitive listed companies with a comprehensive evaluation using four metrics: sales, profits, assets and market value. This year’s listing included 351 enterprises from the mainland and Hong Kong.
