Shenzhen Citizens Encourage to Work from Home for 1 Week

SHENZHEN citizens are encouraged to work from home for a week from today through Friday, if circumstances permit, according to a notice issued by the city’s COVID-19 prevention and control headquarters office yesterday.

Party and government offices, institutions and State-owned enterprises should keep a limited number of staff at workplaces and adopt remote working as much as possible, the notice said.

Lin Hancheng, a senior official from the Shenzhen Municipal Health Commission, said at a press conference yesterday that gatherings and offline meetings must be reduced and online meetings should be preferred instead.

The health authority calls on residents to limit social activities and unnecessary get-togethers, avoid dinner parties and crowded places, and maintain social distancing.

The suggestions came after Shenzhen had adjusted its COVID prevention and control measures to stem virus spread.

From yesterday, the city has cut capacity to 50% at restaurants, indoor entertainment and cultural venues such as KTVs, ballrooms, gyms, bars, cinemas, theaters, libraries and museums, as well as shopping malls, supermarkets and wet markets.

Residents must scan venue codes, take temperature checks, wear masks and show their negative 24-hour nucleic acid test results when entering residential compounds, urban villages, wet markets, malls and supermarkets, and office buildings.

Travelers who come or return from out of town would have reminders that come with their health codes, as per a notice issued by the city’s COVID-19 prevention and control headquarters office Wednesday.

The reminder, which asks the health code holder to take daily nucleic acid test for three days and avoid attending gatherings and dinner parties or going to crowded places, will automatically disappear if the requirements are strictly followed and all the three nucleic acid test results come out negative.

During the three-day period, these people can still take public transport, go to doctor’s appointments and order takeout meals with personal protective measures in place.

Travelers coming or returning to Shenzhen must report their health condition to their communities before arriving in the city or within 24 hours upon arrival.

According to the city’s railway authority, travelers must present negative 48-hour nucleic acid results or a record of nucleic acid tests taken within 24 hours to enter the city’s railway stations. Arriving passengers should follow the guidance and cooperate in taking a nucleic acid test upon arrival.

Shenzhen reported 21 confirmed COVID cases and 10 asymptomatic infections from 12:01 a.m. to 12 p.m. yesterday.
