SHENZHEN will take resolute, swift, scientific and targeted measures against the spread of coronavirus, according to a meeting of the city’s leading group for COVID-19 prevention and control yesterday, one day after the city reported two locally transmitted asymptomatic COVID-19 infections during community screenings.

At the meeting, Shenzhen Party chief Meng Fanli stressed that efforts should be made to implement strict closed-loop management of workers at high risk for COVID infection, maintain a tough stance on illegal immigration and smuggling, strengthen joint prevention and control between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, enhance regional coordination in prevention and control, and guarantee supplies of daily necessities and medicines for residents.

There had been no locally transmitted COVID cases in the city for more than a month between May 14 and Friday, according to the city’s health commission.

One of the asymptomatic patients reported Saturday is a 29-year-old woman who lives in the Xiangshanmeishuyuan residential compound in Xiangmihu Subdistrict, Futian District, while the other patient is a 49-year-old man who lives in the east side of Xiangxi Village, Luohu District.

Both patients have been transferred to the city’s designated medical facility for COVID treatment and are in stable condition, the health authority said.

Epidemiological investigation related to the new infections is under way.

Futian has designated the residential compound where the asymptomatic patient lives as a lockdown area where residents must stay at home and door-to-door nucleic acid testing and delivery services are provided, starting 6 p.m. Saturday, according to the district’s COVID-19 prevention and control headquarters office.

The area bounded by Zhu-xiang 1st Road and the wall of Zhuxiang School, Nonglin Road, Jianye 3rd Street and the Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway was designated as a control area.

Residents in the control area are required to stay at home and door-to-door nucleic acid testing and delivery services are provided in the first four days. From the fifth day till the end of the control, residents must stay in their own residential building and pick up deliveries at staggered hours.
