Shenzhen Weekly Round Up – Jan 9: Quarantine is Dead – Long Live Quarantine Free Travel

Now Shenzhen   |   January 9, 2023

Dear Shenzhen-er,

It took me a good deal of time to start writing this week's roundup. It's almost surreal. It's true... The borders are open - quarantine has actually entered into our collective rear view mirror. Here's an article reporting on some of the scenes around the country (mind the accompanying propaganda). Flight ZH9024 was the first flight to land at our own Bao'An International Airport under the no-quarantine rules.

In many ways Edouard Ducamp's story at the Futian border yesterday morning summarizes our feelings about the reopening. Gratitude, Joy, and Relief. It's all finally coming to an end. Our lives and livelihoods here in the Silicon Valley of China are on a path out of the quagmire of the last three years.

Stay safe and warm out there folks - The year of the Rabbit will bring good tidings to us all.
