Shenzhen Weekly Round Up May 8, 2023: End of the Canton Fair, Holiday Spending, Covid Pontification, & More

Dear Shenzhen-er,

Happy Monday, or should I say Wednesday? It's hard to keep these things straight when you're work week starts on a Saturday. Speaking of the Labor Day holiday - here's a short feel-good-about-the-economy piece on spending that occurred over the past week. The Canton fair came to a close this past Friday with record footfall and here are some thoughts from local experts on the state of the pandemic in China. Finally, in local news subsidies have been announced for startups based in HK and Macao.

Mind the weather this week and keep an umbrella handy - we're well into flood season now. I'll be heading over to Guangzhou to attend Global Friendships Eco-Swap event this weekend and I'd recommend it to any and all interested parties.
