Shenzhen Metro to Extend Operating Hours

Shenzhen Daily, Wang Yuanyuan reported that “OPERATING hours on the five Metro lines will be extended during the Universiade, a transport commission news conference was told yesterday.
Trains would operate from 6: 30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. on the opening and closing days of the Universiade and from 6: 30 a.m. to 12 a.m. during the Games, said Lou Heru, Party chief of the commission.
Operating hours could be temporarily extended further according to event schedules, Lou said.
Meanwhile, trains on the Shekou and Huanzhong lines would run at an eight-minute intervals during peak hours, while intervals on the Longhua Line would be six minutes and five minutes on the Longgang Line.
All volunteers, Universiade staff and Games ticket holders can take Metro trains and public buses for free. The city will also put 3,493 new buses into use before the Games, which opens Friday. Residents could call 96511 and 2668-9333 for taxis to Games events when leaving sports venues, Lou said.
About 3 million people were expected to watch the Games with about 9.1 million expected to take public transport each day, 500,000 more than usual. The commission has published an information guide book to help people using public transport.
The handbooks can be obtained at sports venues and U Stations throughout the city. The guide book can also be downloaded at www.sztb.gov.cn, www.e511.com and www.szggjt.com.
Meanwhile, Shenzhen police will impose traffic restrictions on roads transporting athletes, guests and staff to the Shenzhen Bay Sports Center for Friday’s opening ceremony.
The Shenzhen Bay area bounded by Binhai Boulevard, Shahe Road West, Dongbin Road and Houhai Road will be restricted to Universiade vehicles after midday. Only vehicles with passes issued by the Universiade organizing committee could enter, traffic police said.
Delegations will leave the Universiade Village for the Shenzhen Bay Sports Center for the opening ceremony at 5:25 p.m. Longxiang Boulevard, Shuiguan Expressway, Yanpai Expressway and Meiguan Expressway would be closed until the delegations have passed.
