Baia, My New Favorite in Shekou

Baia. Restaurant. Bar. Grill is now offically my favorite restaurant in Shekou.

The first time I went there was to drop off some toys for needy kids as Baia was the venue for a charity event. Finding it was tough because Seaworld had changed so much from my memory. Walking past the Minghua Ship and still not seeing it, I was ready to give up hope. But then I turned around and boom, there it was – right there on the third floor of a new building.

I especially like Baia’s balcony area. I can’t decide which one is better – in the afternoon when the sun is out or at night when you see all the fancy lights come on from Seaworld Plaza.

They make the best latte I’ve had for a long time, too, ever since I left America. A drink in your hand, a couple of friends and the sea breezes brushing against your skin make for the perfect weekend getaway.

Ohhh, and they have this amazingly fresh carrot, celery juice you’d like if you are not that into coffee.

The Mediterranean interior design wowed me as soon as I laid eyes on it. Everything was so white and pretty, filling Baia with this romantic vibe. So came Valentine’s Day, I just thought I had to eat there. Turned out I was right to book a table ahead of time because everybody else must’ve felt the same way and Baia was packed.

They give you a basket of free bread with cheese and jams for starter. And the constant attentions you get from the owners and staffs make you feel really welcome. We ordered a salad, a pasta and a pizza. Unlike so many other restaurants I’ve been to, none of the food tastes oily.

My favorite dish will have to be the Parma Pizza.

It’s nice to have something authentic once in a while. The average cost per person is probably 150RMB. The great view, the service you are getting and the good food makes it all worthwhile.

We had a team dinner there one Sunday evening in July. There were ten of us and we had quite a feast. Tuna Tartare, Bocconcini Mozzarella with Tomato, Baia Mini Burger, Crispy Calamari, Parma and Vegetarian Bruschetta, Romaine Caesar Salad, four different kinds of pizza (Parma, Hawaii, Margherita and Mixed Meat), and two bottles of white wine… It costed about 2,000RMB, which, devided by 10, was 200 a person. Everybody agreed that he would come back for a second time!

If you have time to spare, you definitely would want to check out Baia! :)
